The Foundation was instrumental in helping to raise $70,000 for the Saffron Bryant Appeal. In late 2010 following final exams at James Cook University, Saffron was diagnosed with a large tumour the size of a lemon behind the left eye. After The Dr Edward Koch Foundation launched a highly successful appeal for donations, in partnership with federal member for Leichhardt Warren Entsch, Saffron was able to have surgery by renowned neurosurgeon Charlie Teo.
Saffron’s mother, Kath Kinneally was greatly inspired by the generosity and warm spirit of people’s support for her daughter’s situation. As a way of saying thank you to the community she asked the foundation to set up a fund, which would be able to aid those in a similar situation to her daughter.
The Koch Community Care Fund (formerly known as the Koch Foundation Community Fund) is now established and Kath has commenced fundraising for this great cause. The Fund will facilitate donations to those individuals who find themselves in difficult life threatening situations and are in need of support. Any unused funds from specific appeals will be placed in the Koch Community Care Fund.
The Koch Community Care Fund was officially launched in November 2012 by Warren Entsch, Federal Member for Leichhardt. Thank you to the sponsor of the launch, the Shangri-La Hotel, Cairns.
